Seattle Marathon Weekend: Nov. 26-27, 2016

November 29, 2016 Leave a comment

Once again we broke our record for the number of Streetfront/Britannia current and alumni running in the Seattle Marathon. We had 31 eager runners – many running their first full or half marathon! Jesse Costucci up until this weekend was our only female student to run a full 42.2 km distance but after this weekend we added 2 more female students to accomplish this feat. Congratulations to Sierra Sidwell and Harmony Patterson!! The entire team did fantastic in what ended up being decent running weather considering there was heavy rains falling before and after the race.

A huge thanks has to go out to the wonderful staff with the Seattle Marathon Association and an enormous and heartfelt thanks to the Vancouver Police Foundation for recently coming on board to support our marathon program. All this would not be possible without the support of so many organizations and individuals!

Every year we have more and more friends and family coming down to Seattle to support this wonderful cohort of unique youth demonstrating the B.R.I.T.annia code – Bravery, Respect, Integrity and Tenacity.

Torres del Paine was voted the fifth most beautiful place in the world by National Geographic. Torres del Paine, and the whole Chilean Patagonia region for that matter, is a dramatic landscape of granite spires and sharp-edged mountain ranges that rise out of plains, emerald green lakes and accented with glaciers.

We will backpack self-guided over 75 km’s of Torres del Paine extensive trail system utilizing campsites and refugios (mountain huts) along the way. We are so excited to have chosen Patagonia as our next trek to expose our youth to the incredible beauty of people and places of this world.

Stayed tune for more details about this trip and our fundraising efforts to make this trip a reality.

Tetrahedron Backpacking Trip – Oct. 14-16, 2015

October 19, 2015 Leave a comment

Streetfront took 11 students on a three-day backpacking trip to Tetrahedron Provincial Park which is located just north of the town of Sechelt on our beautiful Sunshine Coast. This park boasts four wilderness cabins on a network of ex-logging roads and trails.

It has been 15+ years since I backpacked here and I must not wait that long again to return. Next time I will head to the Mt. Steele cabin and explore the higher elevations there.

The youth did very well, many on their first backpacking trip! We were extremely fortunate to have stellar weather with temperatures in the double digits and mild nights!!

Another Successful Marathon

We had 18 current and past Streetfront students run in the annual Seattle Marathon. The weather was cold but sunny and the youth did a fantastic job, especially those running their first full or half marathon! Well done all!!
