September is back and so is Streetfront. 14 new students, joined 8 vets to firm thus year’s class. As per usual – the staff remains the same (going on our 11th wonderful year together).

1st item of business is to get the kids excited about what Streetfront has to offer. What better way to demonstrate this than an action packed camp trip to Alice Lake. The trip’s highlights included a great backpacking trip through Garibaldi Provincial Park, staying overnight at the Elfin Lake Cabin; an adventuresome day at Brohm Lake and more soccer, football, frisbee and campfires than you can hope for.

The kids were fantastic and created a wonderfully cohesive and positive experience for all.

Big thanks again to our camp Gurus: Barry, Gord and Amanda Leo, who work tirelessly to insure a memorable trip for all.

Congratulations to former streetfront alum and current Take-A-Hike all star, Jack Hanen on his graduation from John Oliver Secondary.

Jack was the top Vancouver student in the Ace-It pre-apprentice program and will be pursuing a career as a millwright.

We are very proud to say that Jack attended Streetfront for 3 years.

Congratulations Jack and best of luck in the future.

Streetfront volunteered for the 4th straight year with MoreSports annual “Splash and Dash” duathalon. Kris and Christine have been promoting healthy lifestyles through their love of multi-sport events for years. Their “Splash and Dash” series of duathalons targets East Van elementary schools that are in the catchment of Britannia Secondary. Over 170 students from Strathcona, Seymour and Britannia Elementary participated in this year’s event.

The Streetfront kids are always excited to help out when they can, especially when it involves kids. The students volunteer jobs ranged from”rabbits” and “turtles” (rabbits get the 1st kids out of the pool, while the Turtles help bring up the back of the pack); to runner escorts; to finish line attendants; to Britannia Bruin mascot duties.

We couldn’t be more proud of the efforts of our kids. They always make Streetfront look good.
